| Summers Estate Zinfandel, Napa Valley !!!!NEW RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!! | $28.00 |
| The 2002 Summers Estate Zinfandel comes from a 5-acre vineyard in Calistoga. The 2002 is a result of a long extended hang-time during harvest. The grapes came in early October, thus allowing the grapes to fully mature. Aromas are dominated by inviting ripe fruit with a background of currants and toasty vanilla. The palate is soft and concentrated, delivering layers of complex cherry, blackberry, cedar, and spice, culminating in a supple, long finish. “Here is a welcome reminder that the richness born of optimal ripeness need not necessarily come with the costs of stinging heat and coarseness. While the wine may be very ripe in tone, it is also deeply fruited, enriched by plenty of handsome oak and very well structured with a sense of firmness underlying its fleshy, palate-coating feel. Its lengthy blackberry and vanilla flavors hang on tenaciously at the finish, and scant tannins add a proper bit of structural spine that suggest a bit of growth yet. $28.00 |

| Bannister Pinot Noir 2002 Russian River Valley, Salzgeber Vineyard | $38.00 |
| The 2002 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, Salzgeber Vineyard is the third vintage of this Pinot from Bannister Wines. Jack Salzgeber and Phyllis Chan have tended their small vineyard on Westside Road outside of Healdsburg for many years, but have added Pinot Noir fairly recently. It turns out to be quite a wonderful spot for this picky grape. The wine was made in traditional fashion in small open punch-down bins. The enticing aromas show black cherry, blackberry and concord grape with floral and licorice dimensions. Smoke, vanilla and cinnamon add to the complexity. Full and luscious flavors of cherry and berry fruit with orange zest and spice have developed along with a soft mouth feel. In the style I cultivate, tannins are balanced with the wine’s acidity and they provide structure without dominance. Always a success with lamb, this wine also matches nicely with a soy sauce marinated roast pork loin. Any dish with pancetta as an ingredient also makes a delicious pairing. |
