Charles Smith Pinot Grigio, Evergreen Vineyard, Columbia Valley 2010
 |
|
|
 |
The 2010 Charles Smith Pinot Grigio,
Evergreen Vineyard, Columbia Valley,
comes from vines planted in 1998. The
vineyard rows lie along a stretch of
steep cliffs above the Columbia River,
in an area that currently falls within
the broad Columbia Valley AVA, and soon
to be one of the state’s newest AVA’s -
The Ancient Lakes. A cooler site due to
river influence, the soils are composed
of fragmented basalt, gravel, silt, and
caliche deposited during ice age floods.
This site produces fruit with sublime
mineral character and the acid balance
that winemakers dream of. This wine
shimmers, glistening pale straw nectar.
It is terroir driven - think mineral and
stone. There are great aromas and
flavors of Bosc pear, Washington apple,
orange zest and honeysuckle. Flavor
galore - Italian inspired, locally
grown. |

Sineann Pinot Gris 2009
 |
|
|
 |
This 2009 Sineann Pinot Gris follows on
the heels of the 2007 and 2008, two of
the best white wines Sineann has made.
All of the fruit came from the venerated
Wyeast Vineyard, owned by Sineann’s very
good friends Dick and Christie Reed,
situated on a slope not far from Mt.
Hood (Wyeast is the native American name
for Mt. Hood) at 1600 feet of elevation.
Warm, dry days and cool nights serve to
ripen the fruit with great natural
acidity. Ripeness with acidity is the
holy grail for winemakers and Wyeast
brings it again and again. In its youth,
the wine is very aromatic, a bit like a
New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, though with
a Pinot Gris twist. Also like an NZ SB,
the wine has wonderfully refreshing
natural acidity, which should take it
far with a variety of foods. In addition
to the acidity and aromatics, the Pinot
Gris has wonderful depth and complexity
of fruit with a terrific texture. Enjoy
with sushi or grilled ahi. |

Ca' Secco Sparkling Wine
 |
|
|
 |
Ca' Secco is a fun, light and refreshing
soft sparkling wine with fruit and
flowery notes and a hint of minerality
that makes it incredibly easy to drink,
especially when very cold. This zesty,
nearly dry white wine comes from an
unusual mix of grapes: Chardonnay,
Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling,
Gewürztraminer and Muscat— fermented a
second time in pressurized,
temperature-controlled tanks, where it
becomes sparkling before bottling.
Ca’Momi are the only ones making a true
prosecco style wine in the US. This
refreshing and gently sparkling white
wine has hints of tropical flavors with
delicate notes of pear, apples, and
lemon zest. |

Monte Volpe Primo Bianco 2009
 |
|
|
 |
Deliciously ripe & refreshing says it
all when experiencing the full-bodied
Monte Volpe 2009 Primo Bianco. This
Primo Bianco is a harmoniously balanced
white wine with complex flavors, made
from Pinot Grigio, Tocai Friulani,
Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Arneis and maybe the kitchen sink
too. At first glance, this wine captures
your eye with its brilliant gold color.
Aromas of banana and exotic fruits jump
from the glass. Upon tasting the wine,
your mouth is filled with refreshing
flavors of sun-drenched pineapple and
fresh pear. Subtle tones of vanilla and
butter accent the ripe fruit flavors
adding to the silky and supple mouth
feel. The finish is smooth and elegant.
Primo Bianco is great alongside smoky
flavored foods, salmon, barbecued
chicken, lobster, turkey, pasta in a
garlic cream sauce and mild cheeses such
as Emmanthal, Gruyere and Cream Brie. |

Bollinger La Grand Annee 1999
 |
| |
 |
Founded in 1829 and still owned and managed by the Bollinger family,
this is a truly great winery!
The grapes for the 1999 La Grand Annee come exclusively from Grands and
Premiers Crus. 17 villages have entered in the 1999 blend, 82% from
Grands Crus and 18% from Premiers Crus. The blend of La Grande Année
1999 is composed of 63% Pinot Noir and 37% Chardonnay.
La Grande Année is the Prestige Cuvée of Champagne Bollinger. It
is only produced when exceptional quality harvests occur, and is the
expression of Bollinger’s know-how. More than the illustration of the
vintage particularity, La Grande Année is the result of the Bollinger
style, of its exceptional “terroir” and traditional wine making
techniques. La Grande Année develops a beautiful rounded structure and
combines rich, complex and intense aromas, the expression of which
changes according to the characteristics of the vintage. Sale price $133.00 (was $160.00)

Monte Volpe Tocai Friulano 2007
 |
| |
 |
A summer refresher and a pleasant change from the usual Chardonnays and
Sauvignon Blancs – The 2007 Monte Volpe Tocai Friulano!
Tocai is native to and the most widely planted grape variety in
the Friuli Province of Northeastern Italy. The Tocai Friulano name is
said to be derived from the local word for the small juice glass used to
serve wine in taverns and restaurants. The Friulan’s call the grape “the
brother of the sauvignon” because of the growing characteristics of the
vines; however that is where all similarity ends. The grape has no
connection to Tokaji or France’s Tokay d’Alsace. In Mendocino County,
this grape produces wines that are richly honeyed and floral.
This wine is rich and intensely fruity. It greets you with aromas
of grapefruit, allspice and honeysuckle and unveils a subtle complexity
of toasty, creamy oak. Balanced acidity and a lingering finish makes
this wine a benchmark for all other Tocai’s to pursue.

Adelsheim Pinot Blanc 2008, Willamette Valley, Oregon
 |
| |
 |
Esteemed in Collio and Alto Adige, tolerated in Alsace,
abused in California, Pinot blanc has found an important home in Oregon.
The same climate and soils, which have made Oregon Pinot noir and Pinot
gris famous, also work well for Pinot blanc, giving us wines that are
racy yet bold in character. This 2008 begins with peach, citrus zest,
melon and floral aromas. On the palate, find meyer lemon and casaba
melon flavors and refreshing acidity. It is a suberb accompaniment to a
wide range of foods–from shellfish, to quiche to mildly spicy Asian
food–or is simply wonderful on its own as an apéritif.
