Jemrose “Cardiac
Hill” Syrah, Sonoma Coast 2007
 |
| |
 |
The Jemrose “Cardiac Hill” Syrah, Sonoma
Coast 2007 starts out with two great
things – excellent fruit and
world-renowned winemaker, Michael
Browne, of Kosta Browne Winery.
Aromatics burst from the glass with dark
berries, smoked meats, dusty cocoa,
bacon fat, violets and a hint of
graphite. The mouthfeel is medium weight
- elegant yet creamy and mouth coating
with no heaviness. Poised and elegant,
there are refreshing flavors of
blueberries, blackberries, Asian spices
with some minerality. There are fine
tannins on the long, persistent finish.

Frick Syrah 2007
 |
| |
 |
The 2007 Frick Syrah comes exclusively
from Frick's Estate Owl Hill Vineyard,
planted in 1988. This tiny vineyard’s
ground is rock, gravel and clay from
decomposed Dry Creek conglomerate soil.
In this soil the vines have very low
vigor and they produce a limited crop
with distinctive, full, rich and classic
Northern Rhone character. This wine is
100% Syrah - European in style and
reminiscent of Northern Rhone’s Cote
Rotie with subtle fruit and red wine
tannin. There is a classic elegant
French character. Dark in color, you’ll
enjoy flavors of cherry, black currant,
plum with classic meat and tar.
Lingering chewy finish. This is a
wonderful food wine – enjoy with prime
rib, char grilled hamburgers, beef stew,
triple crème brie and mushroom lasagna. |

Delectus Syrah
2006
 |
| |
 |
The 2006 Delectus Syrah is the sixth
vintage from these exquisite vineyards
that surround the picturesque Mt.
George, an inactive volcano situated
northeast of downtown Napa. This
vineyard is directly above the Peter
Michael’s vineyard. Winemaker and
Proprietor, Gerhard Reisacher’s diligent
farming and extreme crop thinning has
led to this beautiful wine. A youthful
and wild nose offers cherries,
blueberries, cocoa powder, vanilla bean,
cumin, and earthiness. A vibrant mouth
is seamless from front to back, and
features raspberry-cherry pie with soft
yet plush tannins. Rich, beautiful and
loaded, this is a thriller!

Trentadue Winery
Petite Sirah Alexander Valley, 2007
 |
| |
 |
Trentadue Winery has more than a four
decades long tradition of making Petite
Sirah and through the years has become
one of the top producers of this
California grape. Most of the grapes are
from their Alexander Valley Estate - 61%
- with the remainder coming from old
vineyards in Mendocino’s Redwood Valley
and high elevation Lake County fruit.
The 2007 vintage is shaping up to become
one of the great vintages in this
decade. This is a fruity wine showing
intensely ripe aromas and flavors of
blueberry, blackberry and plums, which
are typical for Petite Sirah. The color
is intense dark purple, suggesting deep
extraction and full body with a long,
juicy and viscous finish. Further
aeration reveals deeper, complex aromas
of leather, cocoa powder, molasses and
maple. This is a well endowed wine that
will get better with age, but is
enjoyable now.

Madrigal
2006 Petite Sirah, Napa Valley
 |
| |
 |
Big, bold and exuberant describe the
personality of this Petite Sirah.
Succulent black fruits abound, and this
grape's naturally big tannins show a
plusher, ripe edge. It pairs beautifully
with lamb, grilled meats, and great
friends. The winery's history began with
this wine and it's still a personal and
popular favorite. Appealing scents of
black plum mingle with hints of tobacco
and cedar. A dense mélange of bright
black fruits expands into a very full
finish. Black cherry, espresso, a
dusting of black pepper, dark chocolate,
more fruit ... it keeps building. Save a
sip for the following day, and even more
intriguing layers will show!

Neyers Syrah, 2008, Old Lakeville Road
 |
| |
 |
In the mid 1990s, the Sangiacomo family planted this vineyard, a mile or
so east of the Petaluma River. It sits on a steep, south-facing slope
that is almost a 45-degree grade in some spots. Its 12 acres are planted
entirely to Syrah, approximately four acres each to bud wood sourced
respectively from Cornas, Hermitage and Cote-Rotie. The climate
resembles Carneros, with cool, windy days and chilly nights throughout
most of the summer. These conditions, along with the dramatic terrain,
keep the crop size low and the wine intense. The wine they made from the
long growing season of 2008 is both dark and rich. It displays those
fascinating bacon-fat and black olive aromas characteristic of the most
expressive Northern Rhone reds.
and it's a remarkable wine. Dark colored, aromatic with that great aroma
of spice and animal, as the French call it, the wine is just great
Syrah! 1,155 cases produced.

Andrew Murray Vineyards, Tous Les Jours Syrah, 2007
 |
| |
 |
Andrew Murray Vineyards has consistently turned out great wines for the
last 10 years. Named as
“One of Santa Barbara’s finest wineries,” by
Robert Parker, Jr. and the
editors of Food and Wine magazine were in agreement when they
named Andrew as the “Tastemaker
of the Year” in 2004.
For the 2007 Tous Les Jours Syrah, he starts with great grapes
from Paso Robles and the Santa Ynez Valley and uses the different
climates to create a wine that is both fruity and spicy at the same
time. Using his experiences with both new world and old world style
winemaking, he makes the most drinkable Syrah imaginable.
Ultrarich, with herb-laced sour
plum, cranberry and black cherry fruit that’s well-focused, turning
plush and complex on a long, detailed finish.
Great for the fall menus of hearty soup and cassoulet.
