  Magito Rivertrace Sauvignon Blanc, 2006
The 2006 Magito Rivertrace Sauvignon Blanc follows the same tradition as the Magito Zinfandel, with vineyards selected that express varietal authenticity and intensity.  As with the Zinfandel, Tom has blended in small amounts of other varietals – Sauvignon Musque, Viognier and Verdelho.  This fusion is aromatically complex, with citrus, honeysuckle, and melon flavors, with a crisp finish and a touch of minerality.  Perfect for Turkey Day!  1450 cases made.

  Christie Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc, 2006
The 2006 Christie Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc is from Christie’s own Dry Creek Valley vineyard. Nestled into the east end of the valley this parcel of deep sandy loam sits on a flat bench, high enough above the valley floor to avoid the need for winter frost protection. In the climate typical of Dry Creek Valley, the summer days are hot and an occasional fog visits the lower end of the valley in the evening, providing a hospitable environment for Christie’s Sauvignon Blanc.  A crisp, tropical nose of passion fruit, banana, and key lime with a hint of clove delivers an effervescent mouthful of kiwi and green apple peel with a creamy rewarding finish.  200 cases produced.

Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc 2006, California
The 2006 California Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of wines made from vineyards in Monterey, Lake and Napa Counties.  The cool ocean air circulates through the vineyard in Monterey, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly for maximum flavor development.   In the finished wine from this vineyard tropical aromas penetrate through to the final blend.  The deeper flavor profile and more serious texture of our 2006 Sauvignon Blanc comes from the warmer regions of Napa and Lake Counties.  They ferment in 100% stainless steel to preserve the purity of the fruit and enhance the classic varietal notes.  This wine exhibits aromas and flavors of passion fruit, melon, citrus, and hints of jasmine.  The palate offers succulent sweet fruit that leads to a crisp, citrus clean and long finish.

Fiddlehead Cellars Sauvignon Blanc 2005, Happy Canyon, Santa Ynez Valley
Delivered to the winery in the very early hours of the morning, the perfectly ripe grapes are immediately whole cluster pressed to deliver the pure characteristics of the grape with little tannic influence from stems or skins. This vibrant and lively wine shows the beauty of the blend; 1/3 fermented in stainless steel for aromatics and zinginess, 1/3 in new French oak barrels for texture and spiciness and the remaining third from neutral French oak barrels for fruit tones and elegance. Savory spices of sweet marjoram and oregano are joined by nuances of spring blossoms and sweet toasty oak. Anjou pears and dried apricot lead to expansive citrus and mineral notes. This is a Sauvignon Blanc that can actually be laid down!

Trentadue Sauvignon Blanc 2005, Dry Creek Valley
The grapes were grown at the end of the Dry Creek Valley where Dry Creek meets the Russian River and where the conditions are much cooler than the rest of the valley. The grapes were then pressed as whole clusters to preserve the maximum fruitiness and the delicacy of the Sauvignon Blanc. Cold fermentation and no oak treatment ensured that more of the lemon, melon and pear aromas are preserved without the interference of wood. Post fermentation, the wine was aged on the yeast lees and occasionally mixed for further complexity. The wine is supple, refreshing, balanced and finishes long and juicy.

Ata Rangi Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Martinborough, New Zealand
Owner and winemaker, Clive Paton, says, “Hand-picking Sauvignon Blanc is pretty unusual - but we do it anyway. We also go to great lengths to keep each of the five very different contributing blocks of fruit separate at fermentation. Some years we choose to pick the warmer, ‘riper’ side of rows before going back a week or so later to harvest the remaining bunches, when we’re happy the flavours are just right.  We’d like to think this somewhat obsessive attention to detail is what sets us apart.”  Zesty passionfruit, citrus, and delicate elderflower top notes meld with hints of nettle and fresh picked snow-peas in this precociously fresh Sauvignon Blanc.  Martinborough’s dry, windy climate consistently delivers low yields, and this variety is no exception. Resulting wines are concentrated and complex and, in this case, also enhanced by fermenting 15% in older barrels.

  Graziano Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Mendocino
Sauvignon Blanc produces some of the greatest white wines of this planet. Its heritage lies in the vineyards of France's Sancerre, Pouilly (Loire Valley) and Graves (Bordeaux) and this greatness has now spread to the vineyards of Mendocino County. Made in the classic style with aromas and flavors of ruby red grapefruit, ripe melons and a wonderful minerality. This is a full-bodied wine with crisp acidity and a long clean finish. 100% barrel fermentation and “sur-lie” aging for 5 months in neutral French Burgundy oak barrels gives this wine complexity and richness that stainless steel tanks cannot duplicate. No malo-lactic fermentation is allowed that could destroy the wines brilliant acidity. Perfect accompaniment to grilled halibut, Dungeness crab, oysters on the half shell or many types of Asian cuisine.

Selene Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Hyde Vineyard, Carneros
Hyde Vineyards is located in the Carneros Region of Napa between Highway 12 and Old Sonoma Road.  This is a relatively warm part of the Carneros, since it’s further from the cooling influences of fog and wind from nearby San Francisco Bay.  Winemaker, Mia Klein, has been sourcing grapes for this wine from Hyde Vineyards since 1992. Nectarine, pear, honeydew melon, papaya, and pineapple notes are the first aromatics you notice, followed by tangerine and lemon curd.  All this developed fruit translates very well on the palate, which is marked by creamy texture and balanced by crisp acidity.  The depth, complexity and intensity of the flavors carry through on the long, delicious finish. Yum!
