Titus
Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc,
2008
 |
| |
 |
Titus Vineyards began back in the 60’s
and was planted to Mondeuce, Burger and
Golden Chasselas, varietals all but
forgotten today. Now, with over 30 years
of experience, the vineyard is planted
with varietals to fit the terroir to
produce excellent quality wines. Their
first release of Sauvignon Blanc 2008
exudes refreshing aromas of lemon, lime,
stone fruits, gooseberry, pineapple,
melon, minerals and floral notes which
all carry through to the palate. The
wine’s elegant, crisp acidity is
balanced and although its style is light
and lively, the lees aging resulted in a
supple, alluring mouthfeel that lingers
and evolves into tropical fruits
throughout the medium length finish.
This Sauvignon Blanc is meant to be
enjoyed for its youthful, vivacious
flavors and is ready drink now or over
the next three years. |

Ata Rangi Sauvignon Blanc 2008, Martinborough, New Zealand
 |
| |
 |
Owner and winemaker, Clive Paton, says, “Hand-picking
Sauvignon Blanc is pretty unusual - but we do it anyway. We also go to
great lengths to keep each of the five very different contributing
blocks of fruit separate at fermentation. Some years we choose to pick
the warmer, ‘riper’ side of rows before going back a week or so later to
harvest the remaining bunches, when we’re happy the flavours are just
right. We’d like to think this somewhat obsessive attention to detail
is what sets us apart.” Zesty passion fruit, citrus, and delicate
elderflower top notes meld with hints of nettle and fresh picked
snow-peas in this precociously fresh Sauvignon Blanc. Martinborough’s
dry, windy climate consistently delivers low yields, and this variety is
no exception. Resulting wines are concentrated and complex and, in this
case, also enhanced by fermenting 15% in older barrels.
