Claudia
Springs Klindt Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir 2006
 |
|
|
 |
Claudia Springs’ Klindt vineyard was
planted in 1998 and is now fully mature,
producing fruit that expresses the
unique terroir of Anderson Valley in
Mendocino. It is located on a steep,
southern facing slope, which provides
good drainage and sun exposure. The
Estate vineyard is composed of 6
different clones of Pinot Noir. The
result is an exceptional 2006 Pinot Noir
at an exceptional price. The wine has
the cherry, spice and cola our vineyard
is noted for, along with good acid to
provide brightness. Aged in 25% new
French barrels, it has a touch of oak to
round out the flavors. “Ethereal” –
Seductive wine of great aromatic
mystery, expressing complex perfume
rather than fruit. Redolent with
violets, lavender and plum blossoms,
this wine contains the essence of the
AVA’s unique character.” Clark Smith,
Appellation America. |

Hartford
Court Land’s Edge
Pinot Noir 2007
 |
|
|
 |
The 2007 Land’s Edge Pinot Noir is
sourced predominately from Hartford
Court estate’s Annapolis vineyard,
located in the Sonoma Coastal Mountain
Range – north of the Russian River,
overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Because
there is only one cascading ridge
between the ocean and the vineyard,
Annapolis vineyard and other estate
owned vineyards located at ‘Land’s
Edge’, such as Seascape vineyard, are so
cold that miniscule crops of Pinot Noir
are often picked here in November. This
cool and often foggy, coastal climate
preserves natural acidity in the grapes
and helps delineate the purity of fruit
flavors and expression of the unique,
yet firm coastal terroir in this wine.
Balanced acidity, layers of complexity
and firm tannins will allow for long and
graceful aging of Land’s Edge Vineyards
Pinot Noir. Complex aromas of ripe
cherries, violets and cedar are followed
by flavors of perfectly ripe, firm black
cherries and mixed red and black
berries. Always beautiful and balanced,
the '07 in particular is remarkable for
its silky tannins and overall seamless
quality. This wine is delicious in its
complexity of currant, cola, licorice
and cedar flavors. Allspice and coffee
notes complement a long, multi-faceted
finish in this "True Sonoma Coast" Pinot
Noir. 92 POINTS – ROBERT PARKER!!! |

Testarossa
Winery Palazzio
Pinot Noir 2008
 |
|
|
 |
Palazzio 2008 Pinot Noir from Testarossa
Winery is a blend of several vineyards
which combines more forward “California
style” fruit from Santa Barbara, with
more “old world style” Pinot Noir from
Monterey to create a blend that combines
rich forward, sweet red fruit flavors,
with an underlying backbone of minerals
and firm acidity. It is a wine that is
praised not only for its exceptional
quality but also its great value. This
delicious Pinot is medium red color and
features aromas of cherry, black pepper,
and cloves jumping readily out of the
glass. Hints of anise, strawberry, and
some citrus blossoms lie in the
background. Flavors of cherry and black
pepper carry through the palate of this
wine. The texture of this wine is quite
lush with soft, expansive tannins and
lively acidity. Paired with a nice dash
of oak, this medium weight Pinot Noir
ends with a lingering, delicate finish.

Serene Pinot Noir Yamhill Cuvee 2007

The unreserved nose bursts with red
raspberry, ripe cherry, lavender, plum,
tobacco, slight orange peel and cola.
The palate displays lush Bing cherry,
black raspberry, pomegranate, oak spice,
vanilla and earth with lithe, supple
tannins and exceptional balance. Robert
Parker gave it 90 Points - "The dark
ruby-colored 2007 Pinot Noir Yamhill
Cuvee offers up a superb bouquet of
smoke, cinnamon, rose petal, cherry, and
cranberry. Spicy, expressive, and
medium-bodied on the palate, it displays
a racy personality marked by savory
flavor, vibrant acidity, good depth, and
enough structure to evolve for 1-2
years. Drink this tasty effort through

Keller
Estate Winery Casa de la Cruz 2006 Pinot Noir
 |
|
|
 |
Complex, richly flavored and delicately
balanced, the Casa de la Cruz 2006 Pinot
Noir, made by Keller Estate Winery is a
masterful combination of fruit from two
special vineyards. Fruit from our La
Cruz Vineyard contributes structure and
lush red stone fruit flavors, as well as
a gorgeous minerality. The soils at La
Cruz are made up of ancient San Pablo
Sea Beds and the vines here are
regularly exposed to dense masses of fog
flowing through the Petaluma Gap. The
majority of the fruit for this Pinot
Noir is from El Coro, a 20-acre
ridge-top vineyard planted to seven
different Pinot Noir clones. This
vineyard is exposed to strong, cool
winds, making it the perfect place to
plant this varietal. Sun-ripened
raspberries, spicy cloves, fragrant
herbs, camphor and earth come through in
the aromas. Sweet, ripe pomegranate,
Santa Rosa plum and bright cherry
flavors fan across the palate and there
is a long, delicate finish. A bright,
gentle acidity and plenty of mineral
flavors create a fine balance. The
tannins are ultra-fine, and the texture
is smooth and sumptuous. Lush and
drinkable now, but will age beautifully
over the next seven to ten years. |

Domaine
Serene 2006 Evenstad Reserve
 |
|
|
 |
A ripe, hedonistic vintage, this wine
offers consistency with a host of late
summer berries (think boysen and olallie
berries) balanced with a heady, floral
perfume of violet and lavender and a
touch of sweet smoke. The palate is a
journey from luscious peach and wild
strawberry with vanilla cola, hints of
dark chocolate and tar, and finishes
with lifted raspberry flavors that
linger and mingle back to recall the
depth of initial aromas. Supple tannins
frame this wine with gracefully balanced
structure. "Medium ruby-colored, it
offers notes of cedar, cinnamon, clove,
cassis, and raspberry. This is followed
by a medium- to full-bodied wine with
layers of complex red fruits, enough
structure to evolve for 3-4 years,
excellent integration of oak, tannin,
and acidity, and a lengthy finish. Drink
it from 2010 to 2018." 91 Points -

Canihan Family
Winery Exuberance Pinot Noir 2005
 |
|
|
 |
The 2005 Canihan Family Winery
Exuberance Pinot Noir is the finest
Estate Pinot Noir they have produced.
The Exuberance label is a reserve
bottling that is only produced for the
seldom vintage that they believe to be
one of the finest of the decade. Canihan
wines are grown, not made. Planted in
1998, this 3.75-acre Sonoma Valley
vineyard which borders on Los Carneros
is comprised entirely of French Dijon
Clones 115, 667 and 777. This vineyard
experiences the full impact of San
Francisco Bay’s cooling fog in the
summer. Phil Coturri’s organic vineyard
management practices along with
dry-farming and cane pruning result in
small yields (less than 2 tons per acre)
of the highest quality grapes. The
vineyard was certified organic in
September, 2008. Aromas of raspberry,
plums, violet and floral tones fold into
black cherry and cedar as the wine is
swirled. The wine’s texture is elegant
and rich, with a deep, lingering finish.

From the beautiful Willamette Valley in
Oregon comes a truly luscious Pinot
Noir. The 2006 Expression 44 Pinot Noir,
Willakia Vineyard is raising the bar for
vineyards in the area. This inaugural
release starts off with a ripe and very
pure nose mixing notes of red and blue
berry fruit, earth, briar, spice and
soupcon of menthol that merges into
rich, full and relatively concentrated
yet supple flavors supported by ripe
tannins and solid, if not sensational,
depth on the persistent finish. This is
nicely balanced and should reward 3 to 4

Scherrer Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley 2006
 |
|
|
 |
The 2006 Scherrer Pinot Noir, Russian
River Valley is a perfect wine for the
season. While primarily grown in the
sandy Goldridge soil, which tends to
produce Pinot Noir with flavors of red
fruits and orange peel, this wine also
illustrates some of the deep, brooding
black cherry character generally found
in the region's clay soils. These wines
are bottled without fining or
filtration, and should age gracefully
for a handful of years. The goal was to
achieve something exciting, complex,
harmonious, age worthy, and compelling.
It has the signature cherry cola and
mysterious, fresh-loam aromas and
flavors yet has finally 'resolved'
enough of its substantial structure to
allow us to perceive and enjoy the
beginning of a long, happy relationship
with this wine.

Dutton Goldfield Pinot Noir, Devil's Gulch 2006
 |
|
|
 |
The devilishly tempting 2006 vintage of
Dutton Goldfield Pinot Noir, Devil’s
Gulch produced wines of particular
density which truly show the vineyard
and appellation character. At Devil's
that would be the exotic wild berry
fruit and touch of leather that we feel
is the hallmark of Marin County Pinot.
Crystalline wild blackberry and spice
lead the aromas, while a touch of
mushroom, sweet caramel and
nutmeg/ginger provide the backdrop. In
the mouth it is similarly packed,
showing saturated dark fruit and Asian
spices that carry through to the finish.
The 2006 has a particular plushness on
the palate that we think distinguishes
this vintage. While lush and ripe, its
moderate alcohol provides a wine of
balance, brightness and exceptional food
compatibility. Don’t even try to resist
the Devil!

Portalupi Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, 2006
 |
|
|
 |
Elegance, sophistication and love are
the goals they set out to achieve in
crafting their 2006 Pinot Noir, Russian
River Valley. The decision to make Pinot
Noir is predicated on one thing and one
thing only. Getting fruit from one of
America’s top growers and that’s exactly
what they do. Their winemaking
philosophy for Pinot is simple - less is
MORE. The less the fruit is handled, the
more you will get out of it. Not
following current trends of extended
maceration, cold soaks, enzyme additions
or slow fermentations, they simply
crush, punch - cap - ferment and gentle
press. The result is a svelte, sleek,
feminine Volnay style Pinot with
seductive fruit and spice. Unlike what
we term Oregon Burgeaux or California
Rhongundy, our Pinot is definitively Old
World elegance. 328 cases produced –

Firesteed Pinot Noir,
2006

 |
Oregon's tremendous 2006 vintage began with beautiful weather at
flowering, allowing grapevines to set a
normal-sized crop for the first
time in several years. The near-perfect
conditions all through the
growing season led to a smooth harvest
in September and October. The
2006 Firesteed Pinot Noir continues the
tradition of consistent style,
achieved with gentle techniques in the
cellar and imagination in the
vineyard. Grapes for this wine, as in
previous years, were sourced from
throughout the Willamette, Umpqua, Rogue
and
Walla Walla
Valleys,
creating a truly 'Oregon' blend. The
wine is richly aromatic, like a
warm berry cobbler topped with cold
vanilla ice cream. Lively in the
mouth, each sip is brimming with black
cherry and raspberry flavors that
continue through to the richly rewarding
finish.

Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir,
2007
 |
| |
 |
There’s a lot going with the 2007 Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir.
For those who think that South
Africa is too hot to be able to make
world class Pinot Noir the folks at
Hamilton Russell seem to have a pretty
good handle on dealing with this most
fickle of grapes. This is a beautiful
rendition of the varietal. This is an
outstanding statement of how good the
vintage was and just how much Hamilton
Russell has wrapped itself around making
world class wines, both with their Pinot
Noir and Chardonnay. This 2007 Pinot
Noir is a real beauty. The nose gives
full expression to the varietal while
the palate follows through with that
sleek, seductive, silky mouth feel that
everyone looks for with just the right
combo of earthiness and fruit. The nose
brings forth notes of black cherry,
spice, earth and truffle. The palate is
medium weight with a silky texture and
flavors of red berries, dark cherry,
earth, truffle and a cocoa, bitter
chocolate note on the finish.

Davis Family Russian River Pinot Noir,
2007
 |
| |
 |
The Davis Family
knows that Pinot Noir should be a
sensual, alluring, somewhat mysterious
grape. As the meal progresses the wine
should be taking you on a journey -
different flavors should continue to
unfold - it should have a pretty,
elegant side, but still give forth a
richness that stands up to any dish -
and this one is all that. Their vineyard
is on a southeast hillside that takes in
the soft morning sun but dodges the
direct harsh afternoon sun - this
exposure reflects itself by leaving
bright acidity and a more elegant
perfume in the wine every vintage.
Bright reddish-purple color in the
glass, followed by intense and
penetrating aromas of Bing cherries,
raspberries, strawberries, spice and
cola. There are discreetly rich,
slightly confected flavors that mimic
the aromas. Fresh, clean and juicy with
caressing tannins, refreshing acidity
and an underlying mineral edge. A
perfectly harmonious wine that is
quintessential Russian River Valley
Pinot Noir.

raspberries, with a tinge of orange
rind, white chocolate, toasted oak and
dried mushroom. The silky texture
supports the ripe fruit flavors of black
cherry and strawberry and toasted bread,
which lead to a long toasted oak finish.

The Foxen 2007 Pinot Noir, Santa Maria
Valley comes from two vineyards – the

This wine is very fruit forward
in style, full of “Pinot Candy” and

Savannah-Channelle Pinot Noir 2005, Armagh Vineyard
 |
| |
 |
Savannah-Channelle’s
winemaker, Tony Craig, has a great background – he was the winemaker at
David Bruce for several years. The 2005 Savannah-Channelle Armagh
Vineyard Pinot Noir is a fairly intense Pinot Noir... a deep red/purple
and has a nose full of brambly dark fruit. It has a lot of black fruit
in the mouth, fruit like black cherry, and a delightful touch of sweet
oak. The finish is very smooth with a bit of mocha and a desire for
another taste. There’s a lot to appreciate here!

MacRostie Pinot Noir 2005, Wildcat Mountain
 |
| |
 |
The grapes for this Pinot Noir
came exclusively from the Wildcat Mountain Vineyard, owned by Steve
MacRostie and his partners Nancy and Tony Lilly. Here the vines dig into
the sparse volcanic soil and stand firm against the brisk winds that
race in off the Pacific Ocean most afternoons. This foggy mountaintop
vineyard is Carneros at its coolest and most challenging, but the vines
produce fruit of great distinction. Dark ruby color, with aromas of
black raspberry, clove, and coffee. In the mouth there’s loads of ripe
raspberry, plus a hint of cinnamon-laced cocoa, like good Mexican
chocolate. Very full-bodied, weighty and rich, but still light on its
feet. The finish turns slightly toward cedar, but the fruit goes on and
on. 600 cases produced

Adelsheim Pinot Noir 2007, Willamette Valley
 |
| |
 |
With
its wide variety of origins and clones, this wine displays both red and
black fruit aromas (cherries and raspberries), on the nose and the
palate. In addition, one finds a light touch of brown spices (nutmeg,
cinnamon, allspice) and even a little black pepper. True to our house
style, it is elegantly textured with satiny, polished tannins showing in
the finish. Pair it with salmon or ahi, veal or pork, poultry (think
duck) or beef, and/or hearty vegetarian entrees.
