Babcock Chardonnay, Santa Rita Hills 2005
The Babcock 2005 Chardonnay, Santa Rita Hills, “Rita’s Earth Cuvee” wine shows a real pretty bouquet of pineapple, sweet vanilla and marzipan. There are also some notes of mango and lemon-lime.  In the mouth, the wine is sweet and has a luxurious texture which is chaperoned by its acidity, ultimately leaving your palate with a sensation of mineral. This one is relatively big and complex, but the complexity is more tightly integrated with the tartness, giving one’s palate the impression of a more seamless burst of flavor. There is less heat (alcohol) in the finish to compete with the mineral, and the wine comes across as more Burgundian.  Excellent with grilled chicken or fish!  Wine Advocate – 90 Points.

  Joullian Chardonnay, Monterey 2006
The 2006 Joullian Chardonnay, Monterey is sourced from some of the oldest and most renowned vineyards in the cool Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco appellations. RogerRose and Vinco Vineyards are planted to the aromatic, smooth-textured Dijon Chardonnay clones. The 30 year-old River Road, La Reina and Sleepy Hollow properties contribute power, backbone, and longevity to the blend.  All lots are barrel fermented with multiple yeast strains, which are stirred every 2 weeks for 2-4 months, and aged "sur lie" until bottling. Simultaneous yeast and malolactic fermentations are encouraged to minimize one-dimensional butterscotch flavors and maximize texture while allowing the fruit to shine through. After a year of bottle age, the 2006 Monterey Chardonnay displays great aromatics, suppleness and length on the palate. Enjoy it today, or age it another 2-3 years in a cool cellar for added aromatics, richness and complexity.

  Flowers Chardonnay 2006
The Flowers wines were all amazing, and although the Pinots are sold out, the 2006 Chardonnay was fantastic!  This wine is a blend of several Sonoma Coast vineyards, including Camp Meeting Ridge; a blend of Dijon clones (95 and 76), mature vine clone 4, and the low-yielding "Old Wente" selection.  Enjoy the balanced depth and complexity, light straw to golden color, and aromas unfolding with layers of lemon, pear, apricot and wet stone minerality. This vintage shows crispness on the palate, with a lush and balanced citrus finish. Showing very well now and will continue to gain complexity for 1 - 3 years.

  Schug Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2006
The 2006 Schug Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast was produced in a lively, crisp style that emphasizes varietal fruit character. They achieve this by combining modern cold fermentation with traditional French Burgundian aging techniques. It draws its structure and spice from Chardonnay grown on their Estate vineyards in the Carneros region. The cool Carneros microclimate contributes a spicy bouquet, citrus and tropical fruit flavors and good acidity for depth and balance. The blend is rounded out by elegant, buttery textures and ripe flavors of pear and peach which comes from Chardonnay grown in the warmer reaches of Sonoma Valley. Try it as an elegant aperitif paired with hors d'oeuvres, or lighter dishes such as soups, salads, seafood and pasta.

  Ancien Chardonnay 2004, Carneros
This Chardonnay represents a culmination of many years of clonal evaluation and plant selection.  The vineyards were planted to “Old Wente” or “Robert Young” selections, so they were already starting with some of the most revered cuttings in California. Even so, they were intent on making a good thing even better. They had the cuttings planted for them at the Toyon Ranch on the Napa side of Carneros and they produced their first juice in 2001. This blends with the Old Wente selection from Sangiacomo’s Vella Ranch.  The wine has layers of forward fruit, complex nuances of yeast and barrel, and a striking minerality that is seldom seen in California Chardonnay. This combines with structure and balanced acidity that promises further development over time.

  Hanzell Chardonnay 2004, Sonoma Valley
Honey and grapefruit, typical markers for Hanzell's Chardonnay, are prominent at first, but then behind these are compelling characters of pastry shell (baked butter and flour), a delicate toast character from the barrels, almonds, milk and bread dough. A full, round presence in the mouth is supported by acidity that saves the broad and rich texture from being cloying. Absolutely wonderful! This vintage should mature in 2012 and carry through to 2020.

  L'Ecole No. 41 Chardonnay 2005, Columbia Valley
Some of the best Chardonnays in Washington State are grown in the slightly cooler growing conditions of Yakima Valley and in the northern latitudes of the Columbia Valley. Fair Acre Vineyard (Yakima Valley) provides ripe tropical fruit, while Evergreen (latitude 47 on the Columbia River) contributes crisp acidity and minerality. The old vines at the warmer Sagemoor Vineyard provide a nuance of ripe melon and pear on this Burgundian style Chardonnay. Bright and lively with full and focused aromas of apple and peach show an interesting mineral aspect, deliciously complemented by apple, mineral, and tropical fruitiness on the tongue. Clear, bright acidity makes the fruit pop, while light barrel notes add a mouth-filling quality, balanced by an intense and lingering pear finish. Delicious with duxelles-stuffed chicken breasts.

Jordan Chardonnay 2005, Russian River Valley
Record crops were reported in 2005. All of the fruit was picked in the early morning hours arriving at the winery in crisp, cold, pristine condition. Fermentation occurred in small French oak barrels (37% new) and aged with extended sur lie contact for five months to add an understated, creamy texture to the mid-palate. Partial malolactic fermentation permitted the wine to retain its natural, crisp acidity - a hallmark of Russian River Valley fruit. This acidity contributes to the mineral flintiness and clean finish of the wine. The citrus and mineral bouquet includes delicate aromas of crisp green apple, kiwi, honey and lightly toasted oak. The balance of green apple fruit and crisp acidity provides lasting flavors that will complement the table fare of any home,

August Briggs Chardonnay 2005, Russian River Valley
The 2005 August Briggs Russian River Chardonnay is the tenth release of this rich Wente/#4 clone chardonnay. This family owned vineyard is located on Westside Road just west of the City of Healdsburg. It sits just off the Russian River and is planted in former rocky river bottom. A moderate crop, coupled with a very long growing season, allowed these over twenty-five year old vines to produce fruit with intense pear, apple, and honey aromas, coupled with flavors of melon, caramel, and vanilla. This wine is quite well balanced with a distinct mineral quality which allows for future bottle aging. Bottled without filtration. 325 cases produced.
