Weekly Specials

I had family visiting this last weekend, so we
took a little ride out to Landmark Winery to
hear some jazz and sip some wine. What a
wonderful way to spend an afternoon! We all
enjoyed the
Landmark Overlook Chardonnay 2006. The
aromas of toasted almonds, caramel, and coconut
are followed by crisp green apple and lemon rind
flavors that convey certain minerality. The
acidity will pair well with seafood and
shellfish, and complement pastas with cream
sauces, as well as roast chicken and pork roast
with fruit. $33.00
We also swung by
Matanzas Creek Winery – famous for their
wonderful lavender, as well as their tasty
wines. Their signature style of ‘non grassy’
Sauvignon Blanc is achieved by blending
Sauvignon Musque (a clonal cousin of Sauvignon
Blanc) which balances the wine’s natural
acidity, strengthens the mid-palate and provides
a longer finish. Starting off with the alluring
translucent, pale straw color, we are then
greeted by an intensely perfumed fresh bouquet
of pink grapefruit and melon combined with
energetic spice notes underlined by invigorating
minerality. Emulating the nose, the palate of
crisp citrus and melon flavor carries a hint of
dry white herb accompanied by a soft, round
mouthfeel resulting in a medium bodied, fresh,
food-friendly wine. $29.00
Martin Ray planted Pinot Noir at Mount Eden
Vineyards in 1942. They enjoy the longest
lineage of Pinot Noir production in North
America. The budwood came from Paul Masson's
original vineyard near Mount Eden. Because
Masson was a good friend of the Louis Latour
family of Burgundy, it’s likely the selection
came from one of Latour’s best vineyards and was
brought by Masson to California during the
1880’s. The varietal character emphasizes wild
strawberry, earth, blueberry and dill. Elegance
and transparency is the key to their style in
the
2006 Mount Eden Estate Pinot Noir. Cellaring
from five to twelve years will pay handsome
rewards. $54.00
The 2005 vintage of
Michel Schlumberger Maison Rouge was kind to
all varietals – a great vintage. That in turn
makes it easy to make an outstanding house red
since it’s blending so many of them. This house
red displays the true Estate attitude of
Michel-Schlumberger and their vineyards. The
Maison Rouge is their effort to blend wines to
make a true house red...it's got Syrah, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Merlot (in
that order). The color of this wine is deep and
inviting. The fruit aromas are full and grapey
with friendly cherry and blackberry qualities.
$24.00 Special – 6 or more bottles at $20.00
each!
This wine just knocked my socks off! There’s
only 100 cases of the
Canihan 2006 Cabernet Franc! A fragrant nose
of black currant, dark chocolate, spice, mint,
and cherry fruit fold into sweet tobacco, soy
and brewed espresso. The mouthfeel is smooth
with medium tannins, an elegant Loire-style Cab
Franc lacking the traditional gaminess quality,
and is followed by a long, lingering finish.
$55.00
